When Erie tried to ram through a “Ghost Gun” ban, we pushed back – and it worked.
On April 2nd, 2025, the Erie City Council’s vote ended in a 3-3 deadlock, killing the ordinance that would have stripped Second Amendment rights of every Erie resident.
This is a win for every law-abiding gun owner in Erie, but don’t break out the champagne just yet – the anti-gun crowd isn’t backing down.
Erie City Council’s Arrogance Met Its Match
When we first caught wind of this unconstitutional gun grab, Craig Storrs (our Executive Director), fired off a letter to the Erie City Council, laying out how their ordinance violated your rights and flew in the face of state law.
Their response?
Pure disdain.
City Council Member (and candidate for City Controller) Chuck Nelson, Erie’s top firearm snatcher, sneered:
- “We know our city better…”
- “Gun extremists…”
- “Losers…”
That’s what they think of you.
But on April 2nd, your voices – through emails, social media, and sheer grit – forced a stalemate.
A 3-3 vote means the “Ghost Gun” ban is dead in the water…for now.
Nelson and his crew underestimated pro-gun Erie residents, and they paid the price.
Why This Victory Matters – and Why It’s Not the End
This isn’t just about “ghost guns.”
It’s about stopping dangerous precedent.
If Erie had succeeded in ignoring state law, what would’ve been next?
- An “Assault Weapons” Ban?
- A firearm registry?
- Mandatory insurance to own a gun?
Erie City Council can also bring this ordinance back for consideration again if they have the support of two Council members…so we must stay vigilant.
